C. Vapor

Matematicianul francez François Édouard Anatole Lucas este cel care a inventat problema Turnurile din Hanoi.  Tot el a propus următoarea problemă, aparută în cartea "Recreations mathematiques" (1881/82-94):

Se consideră că în fiecare zi la amiază din Le Havre pleacă spre New York un vapor și că în aceeași clipă un vapor al aceleiași societați de navigație pleacă din New York spre La Havre. Știind că traversarea oceanului durează exact 7 zile, câte vase ale societății din care face și el parte va întalni un vapor care părăsește portul astăzi la amiază?

C. Ship

The French mathematician François Édouard Anatole Lucas invented the famous puzzle Tower of Hanoi. He also gave the next puzzle, which appeared in the book "Recreations mathematiques" (1881 / 82-94):

Every day, at noon, a ship departs from Le Havre towards New York. At the same time another ship belonging the same sailing company departs from New York towards La Havre. Knowing that passing the ocean requires exactly 7 days, how many ships of the society will meet a ship that leaves the port today at noon?
